Unconditional Warmth

A cuddly blanket is often a sign of security for a child, and no child needs that comfort more than when he or she is in the hospital. Sydney Anderson, RN, of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), has been anonymously providing pediatrics patients and their families the comfort of a handmade quilt for the last seven years.

As a mother and grandmother, Sydney knows how important it is for parents to know their babies are in good hands. She finds great solace in being able to make the quilts to give to parents as a personal keepsake they can use and treasure forever. Sydney says, "Each quilt is personalized with the baby's name, birth date and birth weight, to show the parents that we care about each baby as a special and unique individual, even if for a short time."
