New Blood Donor Center Opens
A new blood donor center that opened this month in Ackerman Union was greeted enthusiastically by the UCLA student body. The Ackerman donor center on the A Level provides a convenient and entertaining location for students and UCLA employees to donate blood and platelets, and is centrally located right in the heart of campus. It has never been easier to donate and provide the gift of life for our patients at both RRUCLA and SMUCLA.
“UCLA students are amazing. They consistently give of their time and have been an invaluable resource for our patients. They are committed to community service and have been eager to partner with us to increase the number of blood donations we receive from our campus community,” notes Alyssa Ziman, M.D., medical director of the UCLA Blood & Platelet Center.
The blood donor center in Ackerman Union was designed with direct input and feedback from students. It includes private donation stations plus a comfortable lounge for students to hang out. “We want our UCLA students to feel welcome in this space and know it is their own,” Dr. Ziman notes.
In addition to the Ackerman site, the UCLA Blood & Platelet Center is also located at 1045 Gayley Avenue in Westwood Village.
