JULY 2011

COVER STORY

405 Freeway Closure

Caltrans will close a 10-mile section of the 405 Freeway effective midnight, Friday, July 15, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 18, as part of the ongoing project to extend carpool lanes.

The freeway closure will have a significant impact on many members of our staff who will commute to work on those days. Northbound traffic will be blocked from I-10 to US-101; southbound traffic from US-101 to Getty Center Drive. Sepulveda Boulevard will be open to provide local access only.

Delays on surrounding freeways and surface streets will be inevitable, and everyone should plan accordingly. We are developing plans for physicians, nurses and other staff members who live in outlying areas to stay locally that weekend. For Westwood employees, we have secured dorm rooms, campus apartments and rooms at our Tiverton hotel on the Westwood campus. Staff members in Santa Monica may be housed in the vacant North Wing of our new hospital.

We also are notifying patients and visitors about the closure and encouraging them to plan ahead, and we will operate a centralized call center for patients and visitors to obtain updates on our status, traffic patterns and commute times, as well as a concierge service with information about local restaurants, entertainment and other services.
