Opportunity Leads to Change in UCLA Healthcare Leadership
Associate Vice Chancellor and CEO for the UCLA Hospital System, David Callender, MD, MBA, has announced that he will be leaving his UCLA post by June 30, 2007. Dr. Callender learned that the University of Texas Board of Regents has named him as the sole finalist for the position of President at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas.
“This is one of those rare opportunities in life that allows me and my family to return to our Texas roots, and to serve at an institution that presents a new set of professional challenges,” Dr. Callender says.
“Over the three years I’ve been at UCLA, I’ve learned so much, thanks to all of you. It won’t be easy leaving such a stellar institution and a staff that personifies in every way the very best in healthcare delivery.”
David Feinberg, MD, has been appointed Interim Associate Vice Chancellor and CEO for the UCLA Hospital System, and will assume Dr. Callender's responsibilities. Dr. Feinberg currently serves as Medical Director of the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital.

A new 26-bed inpatient cancer services facility will open this summer at UCLA Healthcare’s Santa Monica hospital. The state-of-the-art facility will feature private rooms within a patient-centered and holistic design in a new building at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital.
Moving some cancer services to the Santa Monica location — about five miles from UCLA Medical Center in Westwood — represents a further blending of UCLA’s medical services on both campuses, joining academic research medicine within a community setting. The additional facility for UCLA cancer services allows for expansion of services now and anticipated growth in the future. Convenient shuttle service between the two campuses is available to emloyees. |
